چکیده

BACKGROUND Little is known about the causes of childhood cancer, partly as not many children develop cancer, although childhood cancer is a leading cause of death by disease in the young. The young age of the children suggests that risk factors for childhood cancer may be present during pregnancy. Previous studies have shown that exposure to trans-fat, a type of unsaturated fat common in industrially produced foods (iTFA), has adverse health effects in adults, including the risk of developing cancer. Haematopoietic neoplasms are the most common cancer types among European children under the age of 15 years. This study will bring new knowledge as to whether trans-fat and other fatty acids may also increase the risk of developing haematopoietic neoplasms during childhood. METHODS We will investigate if the Danish iTFA legislation ban, which radically reduced the use of iTFA in foodstuffs, influenced the risk of childhood haematopoietic neoplasms in children born either before or after the change in legislation, adjusting for relevant secular trends. Further, in a case-control study, we will examine if levels of fatty acids in dried blood spots from newborns can predict the risk of developing childhood haematopoietic neoplasms. Permission from the Danish Data Protection Agency and the Ethical Committee has been granted. DISCUSSION The results from this study will provide important information about fatty acids in the mother's diet as a contributor to development of haematopoietic neoplasms during childhood, which may result in relevant preventive action. TRIAL REGISTRATION Not relevant.

اسیدهای چرب ترانس بافت چربی و خطر ابتلا به بیماری عروق کرونر

Background & Aim: Dietary isomeric trans fatty acids are suspected to increase the risk of coronary artery disease. The fatty acid composition of human adipose tissue is a useful biomarker of the long-term average of dietary fat. In this population-based case-control study the association between trans fatty acids intake and the risk of coronary artery disease was investigated. Patients & M...

I-9: Sperm Trans Fatty Acids: An Undertreated Issue in Men Infertility

Background: Mammalian spermatozoa are characterized by a high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and the membrane structure of spermatozoa plays a crucial role in fertilization. Moreover, dietary fatty acid (FA) influence sperm FA profiles in several species. This study focused on responses to dietary omega-3 fatty acids and comprehensive fatty acid profiles analysis in men as wel...

Background & Aim: Impressive research demonstrates the importance of essential fatty acids for many physiological and behavioral mechanisms in both humans and animals. Experimental research showed that deficit in learning and memory is induced after kindling. The objective of this study was to investigate whether dietary cis and trans fatty acids, pre and during pentylenetetraxol(PTZ) kindl...

A Review on Biohydrogenation and Effects of Tannin on It

The process called biohydrogenation occurs mainly in ruminant animals and during it, unsaturated fatty acids, and particularly poly-unsaturated ones (linoleic and linolenic) coverts to a saturated form of stearic acid. For many years, the beneficial effects of biohydrogenation intermediate fatty acids like cis-9 trans-11 linoleic acid, the main natural isomer of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA),...
